Eppure, la finale aveva preso la strada dei Celtics in avvio. I biancoverdi partono meglio e conservano il vantaggio sino all'ultimo, decisivo quarto. Il pareggio giunge con una tripla di Fisher che porta le squadre sul 64-64. I Lakers provano l'allungo, ma una tripla di Wallace riduce lo svantaggio a tre lunghezze. Si va dall'altra parte del campo e Artest (20 punti per lui) mette a segno un altro tiro da tre.

Non finisce qui. Ray Allen mette un'altra tripla: -3 Celtics a meno di un minuto dal termine. Due liberi di Bryant portano L.A. a +5 a 25'' dalla fine. Boston non si arrende. Rondo conquista un rimbalzo, raggiunge con uno slalom la linea di fondo e tira in sospensione da tre: canestro e Celtics a meno due. Gli ospiti ricorrono al fallo per fermare il tempo. Vujacic va in lunetta e realizza entrambi i tiri liberi.

A poco più di 10'' dalla fine, i Lakers sono avanti di quattro. Rondo tenta una tripla, ma non va. Gasol conquista palla e la manda in avanti, Los Angeles è campione per la 16a volta nella storia, un titolo in meno proprio di Boston.

Per i californiani si tratta del secondo alloro consecutivo, il quinto per Bryant, nominato per la seconda volta di fila Mvp, miglior giocatore delle finali. Undicesimo trofeo per coach Jackson, l'allenatore più titolato della Nba. Stesso numero conquistato da Bill Russell, leggenda del basket Nba presente alla premiazione. Lui li ha vinti come giocatore, guarda un po', dei Boston Celtics.

However, Celtics started better the game. Rivers' team took an advantage they kept until final quarter. Fisher scored a three-point shot for tying the match 64-64. Lakers try to speed up, but a triple by Wallace put C's three points behind L.A. Artest and Allen had a three-point each in a row, so the gap didn't change.

So, Bryant gained two free throws and scored both. Lakers five points ahead. The game is not over. Rondo took a rebound and had a jumper three-point shot with little more than 10 seconds left. Celtics now trail by two. Vujacic was fouled. He scored both free throws.

Last chance for Celtics. Rondo tried a three pointer again, but it wasn't good. Gasol took the reb and passed away the ball. It's over, Lakers won their 16th title of their history. One less than Celtics.

Bryant had his fifth and for the the second time in a row was also the Mvp of the finals. Jackson, the most titled in Nba, has now his 11th ring as a coach. Eleven are also the trophies won by Bill Russell, extraordinary player who took part on the presentation. Where did he play? Boston, of course...
